Exterior Walls Up (only 2 left to go), subfloor down - all after 7 LONG days

We have accomplished SO much over the last 7 days!!  You can scroll through the pictures, but we only have 2 exterior walls left to put up.  So far, no major issues.  We did have a crazy storm go through today and we were so nervous about the walls, but even with 50-60mph wind gusts, lightning, crazy sideways rain and even hail, all the walls are in tact!!  Now we just need to dry out a bit because the build site is muddy.

Funny thing! Just when we were putting up the western wall (mountain facing wall - it is a singe wall that is 20ft long), the local Jehovah's Witnesses came and they said they would help us raise the wall! Perfect timing.  The 12' walls weren't hard to get up and in place with just Scott and I, but this 20' wall was HEAVY.

I do not have pictures from today - we added one wall this morning but then after lunch we had a storm come through so we didn't get a chance to add any more walls.  We only have 2 left to go! Then we will make our interior walls (only a few), add the hurricane ties, put in the loft....   Our trusses are supposed to come early next week. We did opt for them to be built instead of building them ourselves - this way they are being made with the high wind and snow load for our area in mind.

Here are pics of our progress for you - all within the first 7 days of our build:

Above - Happy Weenie Wednesday!!! Our local Good2Go gas station has 2 wienies for $2 on Wednesdays:)

We were dumped on with rain, so we had to cut open all our plastic to dry the concrete back out.  Then once dry, we taped up using Tyvek tape.

I am in charge of using the Miter Saw!!  I cut all the boards you see above and also cut all the boards for the walls in the house too!

Our first walls!!  This was when the plastic was drying out so we went ahead and got started on the walls for the mudroom which are 8' tall walls.

One nice thing about the rain, we have the most amazing rainbows out here!!

End of the day and we were so excited to get our mudroom walls up!!

Above - once the concrete dried out, we taped up the plastic, put down the shiny backed 1.5" foam insulation and then below we added the OSB tongue and groove subfloor (3/4").  The foam made our job really HOT! And we both got some sunburn from it.  Plus, the day we put down the foam, it was quite windy - 25-30mph winds - and we had fun, to say the least, carrying the 2'x8' cut pieces of foam!!

YEAH!!! Finally done with the subfloor! That was a LONG day.

Gosh I love his smile:)

BELOW:  We have a mouse! or something.... It was the size of a pop can plus a tail too.  It is under the wood pallet and we caught all 4 cats eyeing it. Plus our little girl cat kept taking her paws and trying to get the thing from under the screen door!

Starting the big walls!! They are 12' 7.5" tall plus there will be a scissor truss on top so we can have the tall ceilings (~17' tall at the peak inside) on the inside and have nearly 5' of wall in the loft where the trusses are attached from the outside.  Below you can se the big gap in the first wall we put up - this is where the kitchen window will go and this spot is not finished yet.  We were arguing about how tall the window is going to be 2' or 3'.... So we are going to wait to see what the pricing differences are and then we can add that part to the wall later.  I'm going to say the window will most likely be 3' tall by 4' wide.

Here is a visual on just how tall these walls are!!  Scott is only 5'6".  And each of the walls is 12' long and we were able to stand them up, move them around and attach them just the 2 of us!

Funny thing - we had Jehovah's Witnesses stop by just when we were getting ready to stand up this massive front wall.  This wall was 20' long and will have our French doors and two windows on either side too.  They actually helped us stand up the wall! And boy are we glad they did... we would have struggled with it.

We were out till almost 10pm finishing the last wall on the north facing side to tie it all together.

Remember - you can click on the pictures and they will get bigger and you can scroll through them when you do that too.  Looks like the rain will hold off for us this weekend and next week so the next post should have lots more pictures of progress too!!
